I have developed the Stress Less Course inspired by my training in the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) created by Jon Kabat-Zinn. The course is more compact but with equal impact. Knowing how busy people are, the more compact version sits well for those who still want to access this learning.
Key learning:
1) A mix of formal and informal mindfulness meditation practices;
2) A simple understanding of the physiology of stress and its role in our lives, ensuring we understand its purpose and how to regulate it effectively;
3) Learn to recognise different thought patterns and how they impact our feelings and actions;
4) Learn to relate to ourselves with kindness and compassion;
5) Create a personalised self-care tool kit to manage regulation and help us live a more balanced and positive life.
Course structure:
The course is a mix of online sessions and independent home tasks for the duration of 8-weeks (Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:30pm)
Each week, there will be a 1.5hr live session via Zoom, where all participants are visible and able to interact. The session is structured so that you are lead through practical meditations, taught insights and group discussions. There is no pressure to share, but there is great benefit in doing so.
In between live sessions, participants will be asked to follow the learning for the week, which simply requires them to practice a given meditation (provided as an audio download) as regularly as possible. There are PDF downloads with session summaries and space for guided journaling.
At the end of the course, participants will continue to have access to the meditations for their own personal use.
Please note: the impact of the course is dependent on participation.
If the meditations are practised regularly, as instructed, and with reflection time afterwards, then participants will notice the following benefits:
1) A sense of calm, even amidst challenging situations;
2) Recognise different emotional states in themselves and be better skilled to manage them;
3) Be more present and focused on tasks and in situations;
4) Increase engagement and satisfaction in different areas of life;
5) Improve communication skills;
6) Build resilience and improve productivity.
